Card text

Setup: The second player places all obstacles, adding the gravity rift and 2 dust fields and excluding the station. The gravity rift must be placed beyond distance 5 of both players’ edges.

After deploying fleets, the second player may choose 1 enemy ship. That ship must execute a speed-1 maneuver with a yaw of ‘-‘. Then the second player may increase or decrease that ship’s speed by 1, to a minimum speed of 0.

Special Rule: Once per activation, after a ship executes a maneuver, if it is at distance 1-2 of the gravity rift, it must execute a speed-1 maneuver with a yaw of ‘-‘. If that ship belongs to the second player, it may use its speed-1 yaw value. The gravity rift does not have the ability to temporarily reduce that ship’s speed during this maneuver.

Official rulings

For effects that allow a ship to perform an additional maneuver (such as Engine Techs or Rift Ambush), any effects that resolve after you execute the first maneuver must be resolved before performing the additional maneuver.

Ships at distance 1-2 of the gravity rift would have their maneuver speed, including the Setup maneuver by the first player’s ship, reduced by 1 to a minimum of 0. The only time a ship would not have its speed reduced, is due to the objective’s Special Rule maneuver.

The first player cannot add any yaw effects to the forced executed maneuvers . Those maneuvers “must” be conducted “with yaw ‘—’.”

The second player may add yaw effects to the forced executed maneuvers.

Clarification on the Rift Ambush forced setup maneuver: Can that maneuver and the special rule maneuver be temporarily slowed by G-8 Experimental Projector. or the Gravity Rift?
Karneck: My conclusion is that the G-8 or Gravity Rift can slow the setup maneuver, and that the special rule maneuver can be slowed by G-8’s but not the Gravity Rift as mentioned in the special rule.
Brooks: Yes.

The after deployment “forced” maneuver granted by Rift Ambush is able to be affected by the Gravity Rift.

The Rift Ambush forced speed change during setup does not resolve Thruster Fissure. – The YOU in this case is being done by the Second Player when changing the speed dial.

The special rule:
Once per ship activation and after a ship executes a maneuver, if that ship is at distance 1-2 of the gravity rift, it must execute a speed 1 maneuver. The gravity rift does not temporarily reduce a ship’s speed for this forced maneuver.
For the first player, this maneuver is executed with a yaw of ‘-’. For the second player, this maneuver may use its speed 1 yaw value.

If you are first player, the Rift Ambush special rule overrides all Yaw changing effects such as Jerjerrod, Take Evasive Action! or other such cards because of the wording “it must execute a speed-1 maneuver with a yaw of ‘-‘.”
In this case of Golden rule vs Golden Rule, this “Must” takes precedence.
The second player does not have this restriction and may resolve yaw changing effects as normal.

The maneuver granted by Admiral Ozzel (Officer) does not work with Rift Ambush Special Rule, as it requires the ship to be activated.
