Kyrsta Agate (Commander)

If a ship equipped with Profundity and Kyrsta Agate (Commander) deploys a ship set aside with Profundity and equips Kyrsta Agate (Commander) to the deployed ship, Kyrsta Agate (Commander) may not be used to gain a defense token as the ship has already been deployed before the upgrade has been unequipped and equipped again.

After a ship equipped with Commander Kyrsta Agate is deployed, it may gain 1 defense token that is not scatter.
While that ship is defending, as long as that ships speed is not 0, you may discard 1 defense token and resolve that defense tokens effect. You cannot resolve the effect of each type of defense token more than once.

When a ship equipped with Commander Kyrsta Agate deploys from being set aside by Hyperspace Assault, it’s card effect triggers, since it is “after you deploy”.

In regards to Expert Shield Tech and Commander Kyrsta Agate: A ship equipped with both EST and Agate could first “spend” a Redirect defense token to resolve EST effect, and then “discard” that token with Agate to resolve the standard Redirect effect. As this is resolving two different effects.

You could not however, “discard” a redirect token with Agate to resolve EST. As EST requires that you spend a redirect token.

In regards to Heavy Turbolaser Turrets and Commander Kyrsta Agate:
HTT states that the only situation where the brace effect may reduce incoming damage by more than 1 is when a brace defense token is the only defense token “spent”. This means that a brace token MUST be “SPENT” in order for the effect to reduce damage by more than 1, while Agate’s ability is a DISCARD, rather than a spend.

Therefore, the only way for Agate to bypass the effect of HTT is to SPEND a brace normally, then use the Agate effect to discard another token and resolve its effect. This is because the ONLY time HTT does not impair the brace effect is when a brace defense token, and no other defense tokens, are spent.

 

More formally:

In order for HTT to NOT limit the brace effect to reducing damage by 1, the following conditions must be met:

1. A brace token MUST be SPENT

AND

2. No other defense tokens MAY be SPENT.

Another example,

An AFMkIIB equipped with Agate has already discarded it’s Evade and Redirect defense tokens in prior attacks. Its Brace defense token is already exhausted, and also has the faceup damage card Faulty Countermeasures, so it cannot spend exhausted defense tokens. The ship is attacked and will be suffering 4 damage, the defender uses Agate’s effect to discard the brace. 

How much damage would the ship still suffer? The ship would suffer 3 damage, as the discarded brace effect could only reduce damage by 1, as the brace was not “spent” to resolve its effect.

In regards to XI7 Turbolasers and Commander Kyrsta Agate:
Commander Kyrsta Agate card effect “discards” a defense token to resolve its effect and does not spend it. For example when defending, you could discard the Redirect with no negative effect.

Titles such as Avenger and Mon Karen do not prevent from Commander Kyrsta Agate discarding a defense token to resolve its effect

Walex Blissex can choose to recover the defense token given by Commander Kyrsta Agate.

In regards to Commander Kyrsta Agate and Concord, Concord allows 1 defense token to be “spent” at speed 0. This does not allow Commander Kyrsta Agate to “discard” at token while at speed 0.

When Commander Kyrsta Agate discards a defense token, it does not also allow Admonition to cancel a die. Each card only resolves with itself.
