Official rulings

When resolving IG-88B’s ability, IG88B can perform 1 attack against each enemy squadron at distance 1. While IG-88B is engaged with 1 or more escort squadrons, IG-88B must declare them as targets first and can attack each escort squadron once. Then if 1 or more escort squadrons remain engaged, IG-88B must stop performing attacks.

Community rulings

At the start of the Ship Phase, you may choose to toggle IG-88B activation slider to the activated side (if the squadron has not already been activated). If you do, you perform anti-squadron attacks on each enemy squadron that is at distance 1 of IG-88B. These attacks are considered obstructed.

Per the FAQ, if IG-88B is engaged with 1 or more escort squadrons, you must declare and attack those targets first, and those targets can only be attacked once. If any escort squadrons remain engaged, then IG-88B may not perform any additional attacks. If the escort squadrons are destroyed or otherwise unengaged, then IG-88B may continue to target and attack each enemy squadron at distance 1.

Valen Rudor cannot be attacked by the IG-88s if they are also engaged with other enemy squadrons. As Valen Rudor “cannot” be attacked due to his card ability.

In regards to Exogorths, when resolving timing for “Start of the Squadron Phase”, 1st player resolves any squadron abilities in that timing window before Exogorths attack. Then 2nd player can choose to either resolve his squadron abilities before or after Exogorth attacks.
