The ship that Captain Needa is equipped too may replace one of the defense tokens it has with an Evade defense token. IE removing a ships contain and replacing it with evade.

Captain Needa “replaces” a chosen defense token, General Tagge cannot choose to recover any defense token replaced by Captain Needa’s Evade. But it can recover the Evade if it has been discarded.

In regards to Devastator, per the FAQ:
“If this ship replaces one of its defense tokens (for example, using Captain Needa’s ability), its replaced defense token does not count as discarded.”

Even if Captain Needa is discarded, his timing trigger has already happened, meaning that cards like Darth Vader (Officer) or Darth Vader (Boarding Team) would not remove the ships evade token.
