Official rulings
If a ship that is equipped with Quad Laser Turrets is attacked by a squadron in its front or rear hull zone after it has activated and chosen to use Admiral Ackbar’s ability, that ship’s owner may choose which hull zone to perform the counter attack from. If the squadron is within that ship’s left or right firing arc, that ship may perform the counter attack.

Resolving Admiral Ackbar’s effect would not prevent a ship from attacking from its left or right hull zones with Salvo or Counter attacks.

Salvo attacks made by a ship earlier in the round wouldn’t prevent a player from choosing to resolve Admiral Ackbar’s effect at the appropriate time.

Question: Would the use of Admiral Ackbar’s effect prevent a ship from resolving Salvo’s effect from the front or rear hull zones?
Answer: Yes. Admiral Ackbar’s effect persists the entire round and would prevent attacks from those zones.

If a ship is equipped with Gunnery Team, Admiral Ackbar’s ability may apply to both attacks performed from the same hull zone.

Community rulings
Before an activated ship declares an attack, choose if you wish to use Ackbars ability. This will PREVENT you from using other attacks from the front or rear hull zones with such cards like Ordnance Pods.

After rolling your initial attack pool, then roll 2 red dice into the attack pool.
Since these red dice are added after the initial attack pool is rolled, it cannot grant a ship the ability to attack at long range without having the capability of initiating an attack at long range with at least a single red die (or otherwise provided with other upgrade cards).
This also means that if a single die is in the initial attack pool, if the attack is obstructed, no attack pool can be generated as no dice are thrown to conduct the attack.

Ships that have chosen to use Ackbars ability can claim Fire Lanes tokens with their front and rear ship batteries. Ackbars ability however, does NOT increase a ships battery armament, and cannot be used to claim fire lane tokens.

In the case of Ackbar, Salvo and Quad Laser Turrets:
Quad Laser Turrets and Salvo can be restricted by Ackbar’s ability, if Ackbar’s ability has been declared by that ship to be in effect, then that ship can only resolve attacks from either its left or right hullzones, and cannot attack from its front or rear.
