When a ship equipped with Expert Shield Tech is attacked, if that ship spent a Redirect defense token, in the “Resolve Damage” step, before damage is suffered. Expert Shield Tech can be resolved to reduce the total damage by 1. This reduction shares the same timing as Brace. Meaning the defender can choose which is resolved first. However there is no apparent benefit in applying Expert Shield Tech until after Brace.

In regards to Expert Shield Tech and Commander Kyrsta Agate:

A ship equipped with both Expert Shield Tech and Agate could first “spend” a Redirect defense token to resolve Expert Shield Tech effect, and then “discard” that token with Agate to resolve the standard Redirect effect. As this is resolving two different effects.

You could not however, “discard” a redirect token with Agate to resolve Expert Shield Tech . As Expert Shield Tech requires that you spend a redirect token.

On Capacitor Failure. Cannot is absolute, Expert Shield Tech are not able to be used on a hull zone with no remaining shields.
