Timing

This Squadron’s first ability applies during all points in a turn when it is unactivated.

A squadron is considered activated once you announce that you are activating them. Their slider is then toggled at the end of the activation to track that they have been activated. This means that during this Squadron’s activation, it would lose Dodge 1 and gain an additional Adept 1 from the ability.

Clarifications

This Squadron’s ability applies to itself, as it is at distance 1 of itself and the ability doesn’t specify “other” friendly squadrons.

As with the rule on keywords, if a squadron gains a stackable keyword such as Adept or Dodge from multiple sources, unless specified otherwise through text like “to a maximum of”, this squadron’s ability will stack.

Upgrade Interactions

If this Squadron is the target of Flechette Torpedoes and its activation slider is toggled to the activated side, then this Squadron’s ability would switch from granting Dodge 1 to Adept 1.

If this Squadron is selected by TI-99 to perform a Counter attack, as the activation slider is toggled after the Counter attack is completed, this Squadron’s effect would still grant Dodge 1, and not Adept 1 until after the activation slider is toggled to the activated side.

If this Squadron is activated before the start of the Squadron Phase, all friendly squadrons without Ai at distance 1 will have Adept, and therefore may resolve the first effect of Hot Landing to gain Grit. If a friendly squadron without AI were to lose this Squadron’s effect, as an example by moving out of range or this Squadron being destroyed, then it does not have Adept to resolve Hot Landing’s second effect.

Squadron Interactions

If Hondo Ohnaka (Squadron) activates this Squadron using its ability, then this Squadron switches from granting Dodge 1 to Adept 1.

When this Squadron defends against an attack from Dutch Vander, if it is unactivated before the attack, it has Dodge 1 and may resolve the Dodge keyword on dice from Dutch Vander’s attack. If this Squadron were to suffer damage to resolve Dutch’s ability, and it may perform a Counter attack, then it would have Adept for that Counter attack as Dutch’s ability resolves during the Resolve Damage step, and Counter attacks happen after the Resolve Damage step.

Obstacle Interactions

If an Exogorth deals damage to this Squadron and toggles its activation slider to the activated side, then this Squadron switches from granting Dodge 1 to Adept 1.
