Setup: The 3′ edges of the play area become the player edges. Each player’s deployment zone is within 2 range ruler lengths of his edge. The second player places all obstacles. Obstacles must be placed beyond 2 range ruler lengths of both player edges, and beyond distance 1 of other obstacles.
Special Rule: The second player assigns 1 objective token to each of his ships.
When a ship with an objective token is destroyed, the first player gains 1 victory token.
End of Game: The second player gains 1 victory token for each ship with an objective token within the first player’s deployment zone.

Official rulings
The second player assigns 1 objective token to each of their ships after the objective is chosen, before any ships can be set aside by card effects.

At the end of the game, the second player can gain 1 victory token for each of their flotilla ships in the first player’s deployment zone, even if all of the second player’s non-flotilla ships have been destroyed.

Community rulings
The standard obstacles are used during setup, which are 3 asteroid fields, 2 debris fields, and 1 station.

During setup, the 3 foot edges become the player edges. The players agree on which side each will deploy, if no agreement is reached a judge will choose which side each player will play from.
The second player places all obstacles beyond each player’s deployment zone and beyond distance 1 of each other.
Each player’s deployment zone is within 2 feet from that player’s edge.

The special rule: Before placing obstacles the second player assigns 1 objective token to each ship. When a ship with an objective token is destroyed, the first player gains 1 victory token worth 20 points.

At end of game, for each objective ship the second player has within the first player’s deployment zone, he gains 1 victory token worth 20 points. Even if all of the second player non flotilla ships are destroyed, if the second player has any flotilla ships in the first players deployment zone, the second player can still score victory tokens.

An objective ship needs to be completely “within” the first players deployment zone in order to score a victory token. Meaning its entire plastic base, not including its shield dials. Thus it is almost impossible for a speed 2 ship to reach the area in time.
